Our shigra basket bag is Cabuya Handmade's own design and a refined and innovative version of the traditional embroidered shigra bag.
Handmade by indigenous women from the Andes region, woven with natural cabuya fibre, embroidered with cotton and finished with high quality hand tanned natural leather.
Versatile and spacious basket, perfect to carry on the forearm or in the hand, it has piping around the bag and an interior leather pocket to store a mobile phone, purse or keys, it has no lining. Closes with a magnet.
The embroidered Shigra is an ancestral bag that is on the verge of disappearing due to the technique and the difficulty of weaving a bag. Nowadays there are only a limited number of women who have this knowledge.
Cabuya is a biodegradable fibre that decomposes naturally and can be used as a fertiliser, it does not pollute the environment and the processes used to obtain the fibre are based on sustainable and totally artisanal techniques.
